So a little background about my previous post... Sister Bohnet is my trainer and we have had the opportunity to come into an area that had previously been an Elder's area. That is what I mean by "flushed out the area" We lived in a hotel for the first week and a half and then we finally were able to move into our apartment. That is what I explained last week. The apartment has cleaned up nicely now and I am getting used to filtering all my water and using bleach when I wash dishes. I am feeling much more at
home.
It has made all the difference to have such a great companion. Sister Bohnet has been an incredible example to me. She is a hard worker and an awesome missionary. I love it! We make quite the pair. She is from Hawaii. She loves sports and MEAT! Wow can that woman eat meat! LOL We went to a Hawaiian Barbecue place last week and all she ate was rice and a plate full of meat. She thinks my love of vegetables and salad especially is crazy. LOL That is ok I think we balance each other out.Ü
The work is progressing. Things are going well for Dennis Webster who I told you a little about last week. We had an incredible discussion about Alma 32 this week and tried to get to the root of his concerns. He committed to keep reading but we are still not sure what all of his concerns are. I found out that he was a Mason and was wondering if anyone knew anything about them-I don't know if that has anything to do with his concerns because he hasn't talked about it at all but it doesn't hurt to find out right?
Anyway Sunday was incredible. He came to church with his wife who is a convert and a sister gave her homecoming speech in the ward. Everything that was said correlated exactly with the things we had talked about with Dennis and even Sister Webster commented that she felt it was directed at him. I know the Lord works through each of us! It is so incredible to be a part of this work and to see things like this happen. I know that they happen all the time all around us if we will just open our spiritual eyes and look for them.Ü
There have been so many other things happening and I know the Lord is teaching me step by step how to be prepared. Yesterday we had another awesome experience. We had planned to go down south in out area (we live up North at the very top) and visit a few families down there. On the way down however, we realized we were going the wrong direction and then our gas light came on. We didn't know what to do so I suggested we pray and find out what th Lord would have us do. After we prayed I got out a list of referrals and found one that was really close to where we had pulled over. Jane had already said she wasn't interested in receiving anything from the elders earlier in the year. When we stopped at her house however we prayed again that she would let us in and that we could teach her. Well we did get in and we were able to teach her. WOW. She is Pentecostal and has been very impressed with the people she knows who are LDS. She has some problems with some of our beliefs however but we were able to testify her and share the first vision and the spirit was strong. We will see what happens.Ü
Welcome to My Arizona Phoenix Mission Memoirs!
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints also known as the Mormons has over 52,000 full time missionaries serving in over 300 missions throughout the world.
You may wonder why so many members of the church spend so much time trying to teach others about what we believe. I created this blog to share my personal experiences as a missionary and my testimony of the truths I have come to know.
I served in the Arizona Phoenix Mission (APM) between July 2005 and December 2006. The posts in this blog are my experiences that I shared with my family as they occurred. I have added some explanations and links so that anyone may read my experiences and understand more about what I believe and why.
I invite you to share my APM journey with me get to know the miracles and the difficulties of being a missionary and understand more about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how and why I know it is true. I pray you will feel welcome to share your own experiences or to ask sincere questions.
Enjoy! Ü

Small Miracles

Welcome to APM: Hard but worth it...
Well things are going really well for me here. The weather is nice and Phoenix is beautiful. I am currently being very humbled however. We were finally able to move out of the Ramada Inn and into our apartment-wow! I told you last week that we "flushed"out the elders and so we overtook their apartment as well--what a mess!! I don't think the apartment had been cleaned for 3 years! (not joking!) we spent all of last Thursday cleaning...we hauled 6 huge 50 pound black garbage sacks full of stuff plus all kinds of other junk like old clothes shoes and other random things (there was even a Halloween mask!) out of there and it is still not completely cleaned.
I am having to get used to foul smells everywhere--the water that comes out of the faucet, the apartment in general especially when you first walk in and because it is so hot. Anyway, it has been interesting and very humbling. I am trying to make the best of it however and do my very best to make things clean and sanitary. That is the worst of it.
Other than that the work is going very well. I feel so tired at the end of each day because we work so hard studying, tracting, going from appointment to appointment and from meeting to meeting-it is really gratifying but it always feels like there is so much more that we could be doing...
Some of my most favorite experiences thus far--Dennis and his family and Caitlin's family. Dennis' wife joined the church a little over a year a go. She is getting ready to go through the temple. Dennis has been supportive but for some reason he just doesn't feel it is important for him. We went over on Friday and had an awesome discussion as we read 3rd Nephi 11 in the Book of Mormon together. It was incredible as we each took turns reading that every person in the room was able to read exactly what they needed... The spirit was strong and Dennis to committed to read Alma 32 with his wife. We will see what happens...
I told you a little about the Caitlin's Family last week. Caitlin is 16 years old and she recently joined the church. She is on fire! What an incredible example she is! We were able to take to her mother for a bit when we visited with Caitlin this last week. Her mom is very interested in genealogy work and I feel the spirit of Elijah is very real and strong.Ü I am hoping to be able to share with her why it is so important to us so that she can see she is drawn to it because of how important it is that we all are eternal families.
Caitlin's father is another story. He seems very cold and apparently hasn't been as supportive. I felt strongly that he needs fellowshipping. A small miracle happened as a result. Last Sunday during fast and testimony meeting a gentlemen stood up and shared his testimony. I had an impression about him and Caitlin's father. I didn't know why but I felt I should speak to him. I wasn't able to talk to him last Sunday but I found out his name. Yesterday at church I spoke with him for a few minutes and asked if he knew Caitlin's family. Incredibly he told me he lives just a few houses away and has known the family for some time. His daughter and Caitlin apparently played soccer together or something. His wife and Caitlin's mother are friends as well. He didn't seem to know much about her father though. I shared my prompting last week with him and he expressed that he would see what he could do. It was all too perfect to not have been a direct prompting of the spirit. Wow! It is incredible to start to see the spirit work through you.
I know the Lord's hand is in this and in the situation with Dennis. He is preparing me to share His gospel and he is preparing those that I work with to receive it. WOW! I love the gospel and KNOW it is true!
Love,
Sister Adamson Ü
